Mama Taraba heads to Supreme Court

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba state, Aisha Alhassan, has vowed to contest the Appeal Court judgment, which nullified the victory awarded her by the election petition tribunal in the state.
She said she will head to the Supreme Court to fight against the court ruling nullifying her election victory.

A five-man panel of judges, led by Justice Abdul Aboki, had on Thursday described as unattainable the decision of the Taraba State election tribunal which declared Alhassan winner of the April governorship election in the state.
The five-man legal tribunal noted that Alhassan’s argument that Gov. Darius Ishaku was ineligible to run under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a pre-election matter which falls outside the jurisdiction of the tribunal.
But, Alhassan, popularly known as ‘Mama Taraba’, through her counsel, Mahmud Magaji, insisted that Ishaku was not validly sponsored by the PDP as required by the constitution.
