Logo: LP urges INEC to cancel, re-conduct Lokoja/Koton-Karfe election

The Labour Party (LP) in Kogi state Tuesday called on INEC to cancel the entire result of Lokoja/Koton-Karfe federal constituency for omitting the logo of the party and its  candidate Zacchaeus Jonathan on the ballot papers used in conducting  last Saturday’s general election.

At a press conference held in Lokoja, the Director General Donzack Campaign Organization, Pastor Henry Babagbemi, said the press conference was put together to respond to the recent declaration of Hon. Danlade Suleiman Aguye of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the elected and winner of the Lokoja – Koto federal constituency election.

He described the result that produced the mandate  as biased, fraudulent and unacceptable ,adding  that the party rejects  the announcement made by INEC and insisted that the election did not meet the condition and the law for electing a candidate of a party.

“Our party logo (LP) was missing on the ballot papers for House of Representatives in all the polling units in Lokoja Koton-Karfe federal constituency without explanation to the best of our Knowledge, thus leaving thousands of our teaming supporters stranded, confused and disappointed.

“This act of exclusion we see as deliberate, unlawful and a script that was acted in order to subvert the will of the people and impose an unpopular candidate on the constituency. It is undemocratic because you cannot put something on nothing,” he said.

Speaking on the nomination of Jonathan as the candidate of the LP to run for the office of the House of Representative, Pastor  Babagbemi, lamented that the result of primary election forwarded to INEC office in Abuja got missing until a court order from the High Court in Abuja directed INEC to include him on the ballot as a legally recognised candidate for LP.
