Lockdown: Bauchi govt distributes food stuffs to 3,000 households


Bauchi state government has on Monday flagged off the distribution of food stuffs to 3, 000 households in Katagum, Giade and Zaki local governments that are currently on total lockdown following the prevalence of coronavirus in the areas.


Emir of Bauchi Alhaji Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu who is the chairman Bauchi state COVID 19 palliative committee flagged off the distribution at the headquarters of the Bauchi State Agricultural Development Program (BSADP).


He said each bag of the food stuffs to be given to the households contains rice, beans, spaghetti and sachets of tomatoes among others.


Adamu explained that the committee which was set up by the governor Bala Mohammed received funds from the state government, corporate organizations and wealthy individuals which they utilized in purchasing the food stuffs for distribution.


According to him, the committee also got food items from many organizations and individuals including the former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s foundation that donated 500 bags of rice of 5 kilograms and 500 bags of beans of 5 kilograms.


The emir who thanked all those that made the donations assured that the food stuffs would be shared fairly to the people of the three local government areas.


Our correspondent reports that the state governor Bala Mohammed imposed 10 days curfew in the state as a result of the suspected coronavirus deaths recorded in the three local governments.
