Letter to Gov Zulum on the sacked 1, 009 workers

I was scrolling my Facebook timeline when I came across some people expressing the sacking of some workers in Biu local government of Borno state.
It’s so disheartening for the government to take such a decision at a time when unemployment is one of the major causes of the current security challenges facing the state.

I recall the implementation of IPPIS by President Muhammadu Buhari to flush out ghost workers from Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the country, but the case in Borno is different; and they believe they are ghost workers.
A committee was set up to verify them and compile details of each and every worker and interviews were conducted. And they have identified ghost and real workers, unfortunately sentiments came into play during the process.

This is a call to action to the Khadimul Ummah Governor Babagana Umara Zulum to set up another committee to work on the previous verification exercise which had some anomalies.
Your Excellency sir, millions of people in Borno state are counting on you, for your selfless service to see that all the IDPs return to their ancestral homes, while risking your life to restore the livelihood of the victims of insurgency.
Sir, you need to take a second look at the verification exercise because a lot of Innocent workers who depend on the salary to care for their families were sacked.
Measures should be taken to rescue the innocent workers and their families that depend on the N7, 000 monthly local government salary.

It is on record that 1,009 workers were sacked. Your Excellency sir, this would further aggravate tension not only in Biu and environs but Borno state as a whole.
When the government sacks over 1,000 young men and women from the services of the local government, then one can say that they are being pushed to the market of sponsoring criminal activities to take advantage and recruit them. What do you think will happen sir?
Just recently the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, admitted that millions of Nigerians are extremely poor. Mark the word “extremely” which means millions of Nigerians either survive on one meal a day or none at all.

Your Excellency sir, as a leader, you will be held responsible for the well-being of others. It’s better to sort out the life threatening problems which I am sure you are doing your best. The 1,009 sacked workers were among the people who gave you the mandate to become the governor.
Lastly sir, my advice is that it is high time you focused on the verification exercise, because they said it was corruptly done. And if necessary, you can send a powerful delegation to assess the verification exercise conducted by the committee. The affected people need your intervention for them to provide food, shelter, clothing, health and education for their families.

As the vice-president said, “Good leadership is not the one who is waving the law and procedure and doctrines, it is the one who says the spirit of our constitution is that we secure the maximum welfare, freedom and happiness of every citizen on the basis of social justice and equality of status and opportunity”.
You are the best performing governor in the country. May Allah bless you. May Allah keep guiding and protect you against your enemies and evil. But this is a rescue mission.
Long live Governor Babagana Umara Zulum. Long live Borno state.Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.  Jibril Mohammed Nabil, Damaturu,Yobe state.
