Leadership: NGO organises one year training for youths in Bauchi


A Non Governmental Organization (NGO) known as ‘ Young Leaders Network’ (YLN) has commenced a one year training to youths selected from various local governments of Bauchi state on leadership and civic engagement.


Executive Director of the NGO Mr Seun Justin Onarinde while speaking at the end of the a four day workshop which is the first phase of the one year project said the trainees were drawn from Bauchi, Alkaleri, Ganjuwa, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro local government areas of the state.


According to him, the project is meant to equip young people with relevant leadership skills in order to enable them participate well in local governance in their communities.


He noted that similar trainings were organized in Plateau and Nassarawa states adding that the participants were expected to step down the training to other young men and women in their communities.


” This is an introductory phase of the one year training program. After the training, they will be assigned to secondary schools for leadership mentorship for young people through their young leaders development project clubs set up in Bauchi, Plateau and Keffi, Nassarawa states.


” We also use this medium to prepare them for the next year’s governance and accountability project which is funded by the National Endowments for Democracy in Washington DC.


” In this project, we are engaging out of school youths and women in Ganjuwa, Tafawa Balewa local governments of Bauchi state and Keffi and Doma local governments of Nassarawa state to participate effectively in governance in their communities,” he said.


Onarinde urged the participants to engage community leaders who are influencers to make elected officers more responsive to the people.
