Lagos PDP, ADP set agenda for Sanwo-Olu

Opposition parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Action Democratic Party (ADP) Lagos state chapters have urged the newly sworn-in governor of the state, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to adopt positivism and eschew the pursuit of vendetta, if he must succeed as a governor.

They also said he should show commitment in advancing the state in job creation, empowerment of youth with entrepreneurship skills and other areas that would uplift Lagos from its current situation.

The PDP in a statement through its spokesperson, Mr Taofik Gani, alleged the undoing for Governor Sanwo-Olu would be for him to attempt unnecessarily going after his immediate predecessor and or opposition interests, rather than concentrating on his programmes to better the living conditions of Lagosians.

Also, ADP chairman Nasir Adewale Bolaji in a statement said the party’s expectations include but not limited to the fact that Sanwoolu must prove to all Lagosians that he was a man of his own and not a puppet of any godfather as widely speculated.

“We, PDP, regret not winning Lagos State since 1999, Lagosians would have experienced true rapid developments in all areas viz the monumental resources which abound in the state.

“However, we are patriotic and non-partisan enough to acknowledge that the achievements of Governor Ambode are challenging for an immediate successor. Mr Sanwo-Olu should be wary of sycophants who will mislead him into the governance of vendetta. As a party in opposition, we will be resolute to play our opposition roles, indeed engaging in constructive criticism,” PDP said.

“First of all, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu must prove to all Lagosians that he is a man of his own and not a puppet of any godfather as widely speculated,” he said, declaring that implementation of the newly signed minimum wage of N30,000 should be his priority.

“Both human and infrastructural developments should be key areas the governor must focus on if indeed he would want Lagosians to take him serious.

“We are expecting that Sanwo-Olu will continue with legacy projects of the past governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, because, since it’s the same APC that is still in power, governance should be a continuous thing, except that they want to tell Lagosians they are different,” ADP said.

Sanwo-Olu succeeded Akinwunmi Ambode Wednesday as the 15th governor of Lagos state.
