Korea trains 22 public officials on education policy, management

The Government of the Republic of Korea, through its grant aid agency, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), is scheduled to commence a training titled “Capacity Building on Education Policy and Management Program” for 22 Nigerian government officials for ten 10 days.

On Monday, the office organized an opening ceremony for the program commencement at the Nigeria-Korea Model School in Piwoyi, Abuja.

Present at the ceremony were representatives of the Ministry of Budget and National Planning (MBNP), Federal Ministry of Education (FMoE), Federal Capital Territory Education Secretariat (FCT-ES), and Federal Capital Territory- Universal Basic Education (FCT-UBEC).

During the ceremony, the Country Director, Mr. Woochan Chang, revealed that the program, which kicked-off last year, is designed to be implemented for 3 years (2020-2022), with initial planned annual participation of 15 officers.

“However, due to the undeniable importance of the training, KOICA increased the number of participants to 22 people for this year. Thus, a total of 52 government officials will be trained through this program.

“Education is a powerful agent of change, which drives long-term economic growth and prosperity. Thus, investment in education is essential to obtain the desired outcomes of the sector,” he said.

He acknowledged Nigeria’s efforts to reposition its education sector and assured of Korea’s support in this regard.

Also, the KOICA Country Director informed that the training was formulated in partnership with core Nigerian education MDAs, through MBNP to support Nigeria’s aspirations to obtain a robust, modern and vibrant educational system.

Through the training, the participants will be exposed to core teaching skills, educational planning and management techniques, the utilization of multimedia tools and equipment, as well as education policy-making through Korea’s best practices and experience.

Mrs. Ada Ogwuche, who represented the Executive Secretary of UBEC, appreciated the Republic of Korea for its unswerving support to Nigeria.

“The importance of the training cannot be overemphasis to move the education sector forward. Also, the program is in line with the national agenda as well as the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” she said.

Meanwhile, representatives from MBNP, FMoE, and FCT-ES said that the training is timely and will assist the sector meet its predetermined goals and objectives.

The Korea Government, through KOICA, is in continues collaboration with the government of Nigeria to provide support to improving education in Nigeria.
