The Emir of Kazaure in Jigawa state, Alhaji Najeeb Hussaini Adamu, has faulted the economic and financial policies of the federal government , describing them as anti-people which favoured some selected sectors of the economy.
The monarch, who made the assertion while delivering his address during the special fund raising of N100 million for the various development projects of the Federal Government Girls College, Kazaure, over the weekend, described the economic policies of the government as inconsistent whereby social sector, especially education, has been neglected.
Najib explained that any country aspiring for development cannot not afford to neglect education.
“ When I received a letter from the Federal Ministry of Education that a fund raising ceremony will be performed to collect funds for infrastructural development in the school, owned by the federal government, I kept wondering if the government cannot finance
the projects in the school. Where is the annual budgetary provision? I then disagreed with the principal who said government alone cannot fund education. To me, government can fund certain level
of education”, he pointed out.
The emir expressed surprise that the 219 girls abducted from Chibok were yet to be found for over two months, saying that , it happened due to lack of adequate security in the school.
He said that he was happy at one time that despite economic and financial challenges facing the school, the school based Management Committee (SBMC) made bold steps to rehabilitate and fence the school, explaining that they will continue in spirit of resilience to assist the school in order to attain greatness.
Earlier, chairman of SBMC of the college, Dr. Ahmed M. Eshak, said the SBMC was established a few years ago, by the Federal Ministry of Education in all the 104 Unity Colleges.
In her address, principal of the college, Hajia Patu A. Iyimoga, said the projects that require urgent attention include renovation of burnt Moremi Hostel, completion of 985 perimeter wall, construction of sports complex and renovation of staff quarters.
About N20 million was realised as donations with N3 million each by the chief launcher, Honourable Bashir Adamu Kazaure, Speaker House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Barrister Abubakar Dalhatu, Kazure Emirate Council, state Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Baba S. Aliyu, among others.
