Kaduna SDP backs Buhari

Less than 48 hours to the presidential and National Assembly elections, the Kaduna state chapter of Social Democratic Party (SDP) has urged their members to vote for All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday, February 16th, 2019.

The Kaduna state Chairman of the party, Malam Adamu Idris, told Journalists on Thursday in Kaduna that based on performance, integrity and continuity, Buhari should be reelected as Nigerian President. He said that the endorsement of Buhari was the party members decision across the 36 states of the federation including Abuja.

“We have only endorsed President Buhari for president, while at the states and the senatorial levels we have our candidates who are in top gear in their campaigns at their various levels,” he said.
“The leadership of the party at their various levels have consulted widely. The decision was not an imposed decision but a collective decision. This is a decision reached at the National Executive Council meeting of the party in Abuja recently,” Idris said.

He avvered that his party was forced to take such a decision due to the lingering litigation between the two presidential aspirants of the party, Donald Duke and Professor Jerry Gana.

“We had a presidential candidate, but due to some issues that have reached a stage that we have no option than to adopt Buhari as our presidential candidate in the coming election. Donald Duke was said to have won the primaries and thereafter his victory at the primaries was challenged at the court by Prof. Jerry Gana and the court granted his prayers and he was pronounced the presidential candidate of the party.

“After the High Court judgement, Donald Duke also proceeded to the apex court where his candidature was upheld. With the limited time, our presidential candidate does not have enough time to move round to campaign, and we have no option than to adopt Buhari for continuity.”

Idris explained that Buhari amongst other presidential candidates shared in the ideology of SDP, hence his endorsement.
