Kaduna Electric launches smart meters

Kaduna Electric is set to launch its new prepaid smart meters next Monday, just as it pledges to provide meters to Credited Advance Payment for Metering Implementation customers who have paid for CAPMI meters.
Kaduna Electric management said in a notice that “in compliance with the directive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on the suspension of Credited Advance Payment for Metering Implementation (CAPMI), Kaduna Electric wishes to inform its esteemed customers that it has stopped the scheme with immediate effect and has begun the winding down process of the scheme to meet the November 1, 2016 deadline set by NERC.
“We assure all customers that have already paid for the CAPMI meters that arrangement have been concluded between Kaduna Electric and the accredited CAPMI meter providers to provide them with the meters they paid for on or before October 31, 2016.
“We have also concluded arrangements for the launch of the first batch of our new prepaid smart meters in furtherance of our commitment to all our customers.
“Our esteemed customers are therefore advised not to make any payment at any Kaduna Electric office or cash center or any staff for that purpose. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience the delay in installing the meters may have caused those who have paid for them.”
The Head, Corporate Communication, Abdulazeez Abdullahi said the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, in company of Sokoto state Governor, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, is scheduled to launch the meters in Sokoto on Monday, the 10th of October.
He said “customers that will be provided with the free smart meters have been identified and the meters will be installed soon after the launch. Customer have been identified from the company’s Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi franchise states.”
