Kaduna Commission: Insecurity in Birnin Gwari worrisome

Kaduna state Peace Commission (KADPECOM) has expressed its commitment to reducing communal crises in Kaduna state to lowest ebb, just as it decried the persistent killings, insecurity and violence in Birnin Gwari local government area of the state.
The Peace Commission described the killings, kidnappings and cattle rustling in Birnin Gwari area as “worrisome,” while calling on security agencies to carryout surveillance of the area to nip the insecurity in the bud.
Chairman of the Commission, Rev. Josiah Idowu Fearon, while addressing media yesterday in Kaduna, urged relevant institutions and law enforcement agencies to strengthen surveillance to prevent recurrence of the killings and kidnappings that have turned the council to no-go area.
Fearon, who sympathised with the victims and the families of those killed in the spate of attacks in Birnin Gwari, said the Commission “will do everything within its power to militate against crises in all parts of Kaduna state.” “Persons that have lost loved one, persons that were wounded and those who lost properties are urged to remain peaceful and adopt nonviolent means in seeking for redress.” Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Commission called on indigenes of Kaduna state to conduct themselves by avoiding any activities capable of threatening the peace and security and its people.
Speaking further, the chairman noted that “the establishment of the Commission was necessitated by the frequent and avoidable violent conflicts that bedevilled the state for over two decades of the last 30 years.”
