Abuja A veteran Journalist and a Fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmed Ibrahim (Kwakwatawa), has commended Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state for resuscitating the Triumph newspaper. Kwakwatawa, who spoke with newsmen in Kano recently, lamented how the popular Newspaper house was unceremoniously closed by the administration of Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso in 2012 and its staff redeployed to other government agencies.

Th e Chairman of Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists from 1981 to 1983 recalled that the TRIUMPH Publishing Company was established by Abubakar Rimi in 1981 primarily to enlighten readers on government policies at local, state and federal levels, to constructively criticize the performance of public institutions and offi cers and to educate the teeming populace.

“Th e Triumph Company was publishing Daily, Weekly and Weekend titles in English (Th e Daily, Weekend and Sunday editions) and Hausa (ALBISHIR) and in Ajami manuscript (ALBISHIR) which was a novelty in the media industry in Nigeria that is yet to be rivaled”, he remarked.

“Th e Triumph Newspaper was highly respected for its professionalism, balanced and unbiased editorial contents and the readers’ services pages where the diverse interests of the public were taken care of. “It was to the credit of the company that it produced two former Presidents of the Nigerian Guild of E d i t o r s (Garba Shehu and Baba Halilu Dantiye) and also two former Presidents of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (Muhammad Sani Zorro and Muhammadu Garba who is now the Kano State Commissioner of Information).”

Alhaji Abdulkadir who was a former Secretary to the late Deputy Governor of Kano state, Engr. Magaji Abdullahi, from 2004 to 2007, commended Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for fulfi lling his pledge by reopening the Publishing Company and for funding the digitisation of its two electronic media outfi ts (Radio Kano and ARTV – 44)
