Jos DisCo rakes in N3bn in October

The Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED), has disclosed that it generated more than N3 billion in October.

This it said was higher compared to the N2.5 billion that was generated in September.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Head, Corporate Communications of the company,

Dr Adakole Elijah, on Tuesday.

The statement said the Managing Director of the company, Mr Abdu Mohammed, said this in a meeting with the leadership of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) in Jos.

Mohammed called for the support of the two in-house unions to enable the company to succeed in its quest for more quality service delivery and effective revenue drive.

The managing director, who commended members of staff of the company for embracing the new reforms, said the reforms were already manifesting in the company’s revenue generation.

“The company generated almost N3 billion in October this year, and it is a departure from the past when an average of N2.5 billion is generated monthly.

“To optimise performance, we need the support of the unions. We will do all within our power in terms of the enhancement of workers’ welfare,’’ he promised.

Mohammed also said his appointment as managing director was to turn things around for maximum performance, saying this could only be achieved via the implementation of the corporate agenda of the organisation

He, therefore, charged the leadership of the unions not to hesitate in drawing his attention and that of the entire management to grey areas.

“All hands must be on deck for us to run the company properly. Feel free to engage us on any issue you feel not too comfortable with, let us work together for the good of the company,’’ he said.

He reiterated the need for the staff to work hard to achieve the set goals of the company while calling on the unions to caution its members against sharp practices.

“Findings reveal that some staff of the company are involved in terrible misdemeanours against the company. We have had cause to investigate activities of staff with the security agencies and it was terrible and sadly, some staff are going around hurting the system through criminal acts.

“Kindly protect this company and help it to progress because this is where you and your family members feed from, your relatives and friends depend on you for one form of assistance or the other.

“Life out there is not an easy one and there are no jobs anywhere, please, defend the job that you have. I want to assure you that things will get better and when it gets better, staff will surely enjoy’’, he advised.

Responding, the Vice President of NUEE, Mathew Agbata and the Deputy National President, North of SSAEAC, Rilwanu Shehu, both commended the managing director for all the steps taken to improve workers’ welfare.

They promised to ensure their members were of good behaviour and support the management toward the growth of the company.
