Jigawa urges production of more harbecue, sesame

The Jigawa state government has urged the local farmers to produce more of the harbecues and the sesame for foreign export, aimed creating wealth among the rural dwellers.
Addressing the reporters in his office yesterday, the Deputy Governor, Barr. Ibrahim Hassan, disclosed that barbecues and sesame from the state are the best recognised products in the world.
He further explained that the state is expecting over 20,000 farmers to come into corporative set up in Maigatari this year to handle the processing of harbecues and sesame products for export.
The deputy governor, who received in his office the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantile (NAQ), the only organisation responsible for searching and screening of any import or export on food items in Nigeria, saying local farmers will soon start benefiting from such effort.
He said the testing laboratory would be established before the end of the month at Maigatari export processing zone of the state.
Also, Deputy Director of Quarantile North-west zone, Alhaji Ibrahim Shehu, who led the team, said as experts in that area, they were the only authorised body responsible for the screening of all exports and imports in the country.
“Our company can set up this laboratory in Maigatari where all the exports such as harbecues and sesame from the state will be processed, cleaned, polished and packaged for export,” he said.
