ITTF Africa: Nigeria makes semis in Mauritius

The 2018 edition of the ITTF African Championships is already underway in Mauritius amongst a lot of fun fair and display of different African cultures.
In the men’s team event, Nigeria became the first team to qualify for the semifinals with victories over Congo DRC and the host team – Mauritius.
It was a clean sweep for the trio of Segun Toriola, Bode Abiodun and Olajide Omotayo who defeated their Congolese opponents 3-0 in Nigeria’s first match of the tournament.
However against Mauritius, Bode Abiodun surrendered the first set to opponent, Yogarajah Akhilen before rallying back to win 3-1.
Segun Toriola and Olajide Omotayo on the other hand defeated their opponents 3-0 to continue their fine form at the African Championships and leading team Nigeria to the last four of the competition.
In the women’s event the trio of Funke Oshonaike, Edem Offiong and Funmi Ajala made light work of their Congolese opponents, defeating each one 3-0 to begin their campaign on the best possible note.
With three games against Seychelles, Algeria and Madagascar set to be played today, the Nigerian Women will hope for the best result in order to make it to the last four like their male counterparts.
