IRC, Yobe government celebrate 2024 IWD with student, vulnerable women groups in Yobe

The International Resque Committee (IRC), other development partners in collaboration with Yobe state Government Friday joined other groups across the world to celebrate the Women’s day (IWD)2024 in the state.

With the theme: “Invest in Women Accelerate Progress” the drew participants across secondary school students, People living with Disability, FIDA, media as well as other developmental partners.

In her keynote address, Yobe State Protection Sector Working Group (PSWG) co-lead, Florence Onah, emphasised on empowering women in leadership and creating inclusive work environment.

She further noted that, “By empowering women to lead, we can foster better outcomes and create a more inclusive society.When women are not given a place in leadership positions,several problems arise, exacerbating the existing crises of gender inequality”.

She also revealed that, women have the power to lead change by showcasing their competence and values.

The reproductive Health Coordinator, Yobe State Primary Healthcare Management Board (YSPHCB), Mairo Yakubu Hassan, explained that the Women’s International Day (IWD) is being supported by International Resque Committee (IRC) and other partners within the state in collaboration with Yobe state Primary Health Care Board (YSPHCB).

She acknowledged that the challenges being faced by women in term of inclusion is that women are not given the priority as majority of the offices in the workplaces are headed by men and the women are not giving specific percentage.

“The government and any organization should please give that opportunity for the women so that we can be able to play our part and contributes our qoater to the development of our state and also the country at large,” she added.
