Inuwa bags TUC’s outstanding award for pro-labour policies

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has conferred Outstanding Pro- labour Award on Gombe state governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, in recognition of his exceptional leadership qualities and commitment to promoting decent work agenda.

The award was presented to the governor during the TUC’s maiden award night and dinner, which took place at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

The national president of TUC, Comrade Festus Osifo, said Governor Inuwa was chosen for the award among the 36 states for his administration’s prompt payment of workers’ salaries and pensions, and clearing of backlog of gratuities owed retirees by previous administrations in his state as well as his outstanding contributions towards the promotion of workers’ rights and welfare.

The governor was represented at the event by his deputy, Dr Mannasah Daniel Jatau.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, Dr. Jatau appreciate the leadership of TUC for the recognition which he described as a challenge to do more.

He said: “Giving an award is like throwing a challenge, therefore, all those who received awards today have been challenged to do more work. We have accepted the challenge to live up to the expectations of the TUC and workers in general.

“Our doors shall always be open to the TUC, and we shall always give our support to the TUC and workers in order to provide conducive working environment for productivity and efficiency in service delivery.

“Our’s is a pro- workers’ government. We have always placed the welfare and well-being of Gombe state workers at the core of our developmental agenda, including the reform of the civil service, prompt payment of salaries and pensions as well as clearing the backlog of pensions and gratuities owed the state’s retirees as attested to by TUC.”
