Insurgency has set us back – Borno gov

The governor of Borno state, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, has said the Boko Haram crisis in the norteast has brought backwardness to the state.
Governor Shettima, while speaking during a visit by a delegation led by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, OON, SAN, to intimate him on the annual general conference of the association scheduled to hold from August 26th to 30th, 2018 in Abuja, said the state will be on ground at the conference to showcase the achievement of the state government after the crisis.
He expressed his pleasure at the vibrancy of the NBA in its quest to promoting the rule of law.
He stated that Borno state has indeed suffered setbacks owing to the crisis that befell the state.
He identified poverty and destitution as the basis of the crisis in the state and expressed his passion for education as the only way through which insurgency can be eradicated in the state.
He assured the NBA of his support towards the NBA 2018 Annual General Conference adding that the State will consider having a show case session during the conference.
The President of the NBA, who spoke earlier congratulated the newly sworn in Judges in the state and appreciated the efforts of the Borno state government in combating the security challenges in the state.
While introducing the 58th NBA Annual General Conference to the governor, the NBA President gave a recap of the 2017 conference which he noted featured about 12, 000 delegates (lawyers and nonlawyers), 58 working sessions and 148 renowned speakers.
The NBA President said,: “We have invited Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, as the Keynote Speaker.
The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has also been invited.
“Last year, we had the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, who had an interview on the investment climate in Nigeria and other issues with the CNN presenter, Zain Asher, as one of the significant features of the spectacularly successful conference.
Our sessions were televised live across the world on a dedicated DSTV channel”.
He further stated that the NBA has partnered with the BritishNigeria Law Forum (BNLF), the Bar Council of England and Wales, the American Bar Association (ABA) and other Bar Associations from across the continent and they have offered to provide technical support to the conference planning
