In Zamfara, Bandits invade school, kidnap Provost

There was pandemonium at College of Agriculture, Bakura, headquarters of Bakura local government area of Zamfara state on Saturday as bandits in their large numbers and abducted one, Malam Habib Mainasara, in his staff quarters.

Speaking to Blueprint via telephone, the deputy register of the college, Malam Aliyu Atiku Bakura, stated that the Bandits besieged the residence of the provost around 2:30am on Sunday, seized all his cellphone including that of his wife and other valuable items, broke the windscreen of his car in search of money inside the car.

They later kidnapped him along with one Malam Kabiru Muhammed who is a staff and a teacher at the College of Science in Bakura.

Blueprint reports that the abducted provost was appointed in April 2020 by Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle as the College Provost.

Until his appointment, he was a staff at the college of science secondary school Bakura.

Speaking to Blueprint, the younger brother of the provost Malam Mainasara Nasiru in a telephone interview, further confirmed the incident, but said they are yet to hear from the abductors.

He said the matter has been reported to Zamfara State Police Command and Department of State Security (DSS) for prompt response, calling on the government and security agencies to do the needful in ensuring their rescue unharmed.

Zamfara state police command spokesman, Sp. Muhammad Shehu, confirmed the incident.

He said already the tactical operation rescue team of the state command had been deployed to the area to ensure rescue of the victims safely.

“As I’m talking to you now, Zamfara State Police Command under the leadership of CP Hussaini Rabiu, deployed Police tactical operatives attached to ‘Operation Restore Peace’ to the area with a mandate to rescue the kidnapped victims hale and hearty,” Shehu said.
