Imo: Top government official ecstatic as Anyanacho subdue opponent, bags Taekwondo gold at African Games

The Imo State Sports Commission Chairman, Prince Sir Eleazar Onyewuchi Ogbonna “Ambassador”, has on behalf of the Executive Governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Odidika Uzodinma “Onwa Oyoko” Our ambassadorial daughter, Elizabeth Anyanacho on her historic outing at the ongoing Africa Games in Ghana.

The 24-year-old Anyanacho who hails from Umuaka, Njaba LGA of Imo state defeated her Egyptian opponent to win Gold for Nigeria in the Taekwondo 67kg final at the ongoing Africa Games 2024 taking place in Ghana.

In his congratulatory massage through his Media Director, Prince Ogbonna described the feat of Anyanacho who is a 400 level undergraduate in Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) as a true spirit of our Heartland state commending her tenacity and commitment for success which he likened to Gov Uzodimma’s quest to digitally empower Imo youths to excel in their chosen career through his Shared Prosperity mantra.

“As you already know these feat of Anyanacho is in line with the mission and vision of my administration to resorsitate sports development in Imo and discover burden talents.

“We already have plans to organizing the Imo Sports Festival, School Sports Festival including Tertiary Sports Tournament which will soon kick-start with a seminar for the Games Masters and Sports Coaches and Secretaries.

“We are committed to ensuring that Sports is not just a recreation programme but also a youth empowerment programme when made more economically viable through our partners whom we have MoU’s to make our Coaches, Administrators and athletes professional enough.

While commending the feat of Anyanacho at the AG 2024 in Ghana and other Nigerian medal winners, Prince Ogbonna called on private organizations and we’ll meaning Imolites to adopt one sponsor to support as it would help to lesson the burden on government noting that government with all it’s numerous responsibilities can not do it all alone.
