I’m not under probe – NECO registrar

The newly appointed Registrar of National Examination Council (NECO) and former Ebonyi state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Professor Godswill Obioma Wednesday denied being probed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The member representing Ezza South/Ikwo federal constituency  at the Green Chambers, Chinedu Ogah had on Saturday called on President Mohammadu Buhari to withdraw the appointment of the former Ebonyi INEC boss  alleging that  he was engaged in corrupt practices.

He further stated that the EFCC, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and a presidential panel  have been probing Obioma for various corrupt offences.

The statement reads in part:  “It is on record that EFCC, ICPC and a presidential panel are probing Obioma for frauds. So, his appointment is the greatest mistake our president has made.

“Those who recommended him for the president are promoting corruption and denting the image of Mr. President who vigorously fought corruption in this country.

“Obioma is supposed to be properly probed instead of rewarding him with this appointment after committing all manners of fraud.

But Obioma, in a telephone  interview denied knowledge of the allegations and said he doesn’t want to join issues with anybody.  He also noted that he needed clearance from the Education Minister to react.

He said: ” I don’t know what he is saying. I was just appointed by Mr. President, so I can’t react without the clearance of my minister. If there is any allegation that I am under a probe, I am not aware.

“I don’t want to join issues with anybody. I don’t know what he said.  How can I sabotage Mr. President that appointed me to work for him? He said I am under probe by EFCC and others? I don’t know what he meant by  saying by I am under probe. The election that happens last year, please I don’t want to join issues. If he has issues or whatever, is it me that he would address it to or Mr President?”
