I’ll recover certificate of return from Kalu at tribunal says Mao

Serving Abia North senatorial district Senator Mao Ohuabunwa has vowed to reclaim his certificate of return erroneously given to former governor Orji Uzor Kalu by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the tribunal.

The senator of the outgoing 8th senate said it was wrong for the electoral umpire to have issued the certificate of return to his All Progressives Congress (APC) opponent thereby purporting him as the winner of the 9th March,2019 election.

Senator Ohuabunwa, who described the declaration was a misnomer, said since the margin of winner was lesser than the cancelled votes, INEC ought not to have issued certificate of Return to the former governor, but should have ordered a re-run as were the cases in similar situations.

According to him, whereas INEC returning officers declared senators T A Orji and Enyinnaya Abaribe of Abia Central and Abia South respectively, nobody declared Orji Uzor Kalu the winner in line with electoral law.

Though he said he would miss resuming with his colleagues when the 9th Senate takes off but he expressed optimism that he would recover his mandate at tribunal when the chips are down.

On President Muhammadu Buhari’s inability to address Nigerians during his inauguration for second term, he said it was wrong adding that it was a missed opportunity to address the nation on topical issues germane to the smooth running of his government.

He argued that May 29 is inauguration of a new government and therefore an opportunity for the government to tell Nigerians its policy thrust, unlike June 12 which is the commemoration of democracy.
