In this interview, rising star Muhammad Usman, popularly known as Razaki, tells IBRAHIM HAMISU how as a Dadin Kowa actor, he became a producer, in addition to producing his new movie, Baban Ladi.
Background
I was born and raised here in Kano and completed my education here as well. After finishing my studies, I decided to pursue a career in the film industry to contribute my talents to it.
Which was your first movie as an actor?
I have appeared in many movies, but I’m best known for Dadin Kowa, where I started as an actor. By the grace of God, I’m now a film producer, giving others the opportunity to act in my movies. Though I haven’t produced many films, I haven’t acted in many either.
How many movies have you acted in so far?
I’ve appeared as an actor in four movies so far, including the most popular one, Dadin Kowa, followed by Kwana Bakwai, Ya Mace, and Tarkon Kauna.
What made you opt for producing?
My passion for filmmaking inspired me to become a producer. I’m currently working on a new movie called Baban Ladi.
What is the current stage of the filming process?
Having previous experiences in production, I created a detailed plan for this movie. We’re following a well-organised system to manage the project effectively.
What message does the movie convey?
I’m confident that I’ve developed a new movie style that offers a different viewing experience. Baban Ladi will definitely surprise the audience. Instead of releasing it on YouTube, we’ve chosen to share it through Yar Aro TV, where viewers can forward it to their phones, allowing the message to reach a wider audience.
Can you elaborate on the movie’s content?
The film revolves around a girl struggling to get education, but facing many challenges along the way. Someone intervenes and tries to help her, but they also encounter various problems. The movie also includes comedic elements and entertainment.
What message do you have for the audience?
I’m incredibly grateful to the viewers. Alhamdulillah, within a short period, thousands of people have subscribed to our YouTube channel and watched our movies. We’ll continue releasing the movie every Wednesday.
What are your aspirations for the future of Kannywood?
My hope is that Baban Ladi will become a blockbuster success in the entire Kannywood industry, even becoming a reference point for other actors in the industry.
