A 38 -year-old hunter, Mr. Ubaka Nwanmo, has killed himself after the explosion of his hunting dane gun in Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South local government area of Delta state.
Mr. Nwanmo died of bullet wounds after his loaded dane gun accidentally went off last Sunday.
A source in the village said Nwanmo went for hunting on Saturday night but did not return home.
A family member, Mr Tony Isichei, said the late hunter did not die immediately after the incident adding that he managed to crawl out of the bush to the roadside to call for help.
However, he said the people that saw him lying down by the roadside carried him to the community private hospital, where he passed on.
He said, “When I saw him in the hospital, he was still talking but was in great pain. He was able to narrate how the incident happened to those that took him to the hospital before he gave up the ghost.”
Mr Isichei stated further that Nwanmo said he was trying to pull the gun from where he hanged it in the bush when the gun exploded.
Isichei said Nwanmo may have died due to the delay in treating him when he arrived the hospital.
He lamented that the hospital had requested for a police report, but Nwanmo eventually died while his family were running around to obtain a police report.
When contacted, the Delta Police spokesperson, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya said the matter was not reported to the police.
“I have spoken with the DPO in-charge of Ogwashi-Uku, and he said he is not aware of such incident,” Onovwakpoyeya said.
