Harmattan: SEMA warns Kaduna residents against fire accident

Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has warned Kaduna residents to be mindful of the dry harmattan season to avoid fire outbreaks that could destroy properties and even cause death.
The Executive Secretary of the Agency, Malam Abubakar Hassan, who disclosed this on Tuesday in Kaduna, noted that they planned to embark on aggressive media campaign to prevent dry season disasters in the state.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Kaduna State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, the SEMA boss observed that the harmattan season usually comes along with peculiar characteristics that if not properly handled could lead to disasters such as fire outbreaks.

According to the Executive Secretary, residents of the state need to be alerted to be sensitive about improper use of domestic gas, bush burning, leaving electrical appliances connected to the socket even after use and use of charcoal to prevent any action that could lead to destruction of properties, lives and the environment.
Malam Abubakar Hassan said the visit to the NUJ state council is to rekindle the long standing relationship between the Agency and Journalists.

Responding, Kaduna state NUJ Chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusuf, commended the Agency for recognizing NUJ as partners in community service.
He said journalists especially in Kaduna state are dependable allies in any attempt to curb disasters because of their experience and selfless service to humanity.
Comrade Adamu Yusuf therefore assured NUJ’s support to SEMA to succeed in all it’s mandated activities.
