Gunmen kill 4 policemen in Edo, set bodies ablaze

Tragedy yesterday struck at Oke-Ora in Owan West local government area of Edo state, following the brutal murder of four policemen by suspected gunmen.
The operatives were said to be on patrol in the area and were about to alight from their Hilux van when the assailants struck.
The gunmen reportedly fired repeated shots at the operatives and afterwards set their bodies and the patrol vehicle on fire.
It was also learnt that the service riffles of the slain policemen were reportedly taken away by the rampaging gunmen.
Spokesman of the state Police Command, DSP Chidi Nwanbuzor, said the command had not been briefed, adding: “I just received the information from the media.” However, Chairman of Owan West local government area, Mr.
Frank Ilaboya, confirmed the in- cident, adding, “from information available to me, the policemen were about to alight from their vehicle when the assailants opened fire on them.” Ilaboya said: “As I speak with you, the communities in the area are in total confusion.
However, I have convened an emergency security meeting for this afternoon (Sunday) to look at the issue because there is no eyewitness that can give an ac- count of what really happened.”
