Edo: Police arrest 7 for killing rival cult members

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have apprehended seven suspects over their reported involvement in cult-related fatalities in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

The command stated cartridges and other dangerous items were recovered from the suspects.

The operatives identified the suspects as members of Black Axe otherwise known as Aye and Eiye confraternity groups.

It disclosed this in its official X handle, formerly Twitter on Sunday, adding that the  suspects were arrested by South-Ibie Division and Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit of the command.

The command explained that the arrest was sequel to the breakout of violent attack between Black Axe and Eiye confraternities on April 18 2024 at South-Ibie, Etsako West local government of the State.

It added: “in the incident one Umoru was attacked and shot dead by some members of Eiye Cult group at Campus gate, Auchi.

“The killing prompted the operatives of the command in the locality to  storm the scene and arrested seven members of black Axe group.”

Continuing , the police said, “a young man, who is an Aye secret cult member received a phone call from his cult member who want to carry out an attack on the late Umoru, that he should leave immediately.

“He left the place and Umoru was attacked and shot dead. He was later arrested through a diligent investigation and confessed to the crime”.
