GPPAC affirms drive for collaborative conflict prevention, peace-building

The Network, Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) West Africa, has affirmed commitment to drive the decentralisation of GPPAC within the region so as to foster collaborative conflict prevention, peace-building across communities in Nigeria.

The Regional Representative GPPAC West Africa, Mr Rafiu-Adeniran Lawal , made this known at the GPPAC Nigeria inuagural meeting in Abuja said GPPAC seeks a world where violence and armed conflicts are prevented and resolved by peaceful means based on justice, gender equity, sustainable development and human security for all.

He said the theme of the program “Role of Civil Society in Fostering Peace and Security and Social Cohesion” is very timely as they aim to work together to find solutions to the plethora of peace and security threats across Nigeria

He further explained that GPPAC also builds national and regional capacity for prevention by striving to enhance the capacity of its regional networks and global mechanisms to undertake collective actions to prevent violent conflict.

Also, Professor of International Relations, Obafemi Awolowo University,Ile-Ife, Nigeria , Prof. Charles Ukejesaid CSOs urged CSOs not to portray themselves as oppositional elements but collaborate within themselves and with the government but be contributors and work work together to build bridges .

He further encouraged them to come together as network so that each partner in that network can bring something to the table

Also, the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs,Disaster Management and Social Development, Dr Nasir Sani-Gwarzo commended GPPAC for the initiative.

Sani-Gwarzo said armed conflict has devastated the society particularly in the North East of Nigeria causing hunger, health challenges displacement, destitution and underdevelopment.
