Gombe, Crown FC battle to return to top flight

Gombe United and Crown FC are among the front runners in the Nigeria National League (NNL) by the half way mark as they aim for an instant return to the Nigeria top flight next season.
Both clubs were relegated from the Nigeria premier league last season, but they are now in the top bracket to stage a prompt return to the top league.

Gombe United, still under former Nigeria coach Austin Eguavoen, are the front runners in Division A2, while Crown are top of Division B1.
The other top performers in the first round are Plateau United and Supreme Court FC in Division A1, while MFM lead in Division B2.
Gateway FC, Akwa Starlets, Atiba United and Nembe City FC are in the bottom four of Division B2, while Bussdor FC, Remo Stars, Ekiti United and Go-Round FC are rooted bottom in Division B1.
In Division A1, Kogi United, Jigawa Golden Stars, Yobe Desert Stars and Spotlight are in danger of dropping off, while in Division A2, Sokoto United, Mighty Jets, FRSC and ABS FC are at the bottom of the standings.

The second round of the NNL season will resume on July 25.
