Fulani group vows to end conflicts

Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, a Fulani socio cultural organisation, has vowed to bring to an end the incessant conflicts between Fulani herdsmen, farmers and some communities in some states “within the shortest timepossile.”

Its National President, Alhaji Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, made the vow in a statement shortly after a meeting with some Fulani leaders from different states in Nasarawa state.

Bodejo said those saddled with responsibilities of bringing the crises to an end were not doing enough “because some of them are doing that for their own personal aggrandisement.”

He cited Nasarawa state where he said herdsmen lost over 1,900 cattle, but because of the intervention of the organisation and the governor, the crisis had been resolve.

He debunked insinuations that the Fulani “do not forgive anyone who deliberately kills their cattle,” saying that such allegation was the figment of the imagination of the rumour peddlers.
He said: “It is quite surprising that despite huge resources and energy channeled towards finding a lasting solution to these crises in states like Benue, Kaduna, Taraba, Katsina, Plateau and Zamfara, the conflicts have defied solutions and are spreading everyday like a wild fire.”

Bodejo urged governors of the affected states to extend their support and corporate to enable them to end the conflicts, adding that “they should use those who are supposed to mediate between the warring factions to make it impossible to ascertain the real Fulani leaders who are supposed to intervene.”

“We, the Fulani, respect our leaders and the fact that the governors of these states are underutilising us is making it difficult to get to the roots of the whole thing. Some people are parading themselves as Fulani leaders, going from one crisis state to another and also having series of meeting with the chief executives of the affected states, while the Fulani herdsmen don’t know them and they don’t know how to contact the herdsmen; this has contributed in no small measure to escalate the crisis.

“What we need is cooperation from the public because the safety of lives and property is the collective responsibility of everyone; I assure you that Miyetti Allah will get to the roots of these incessant crises, because we are law-abiding citizens and we will continue to obey the laws of the land.”
