FRSC registers 43,085 new number plates

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has so far registered and issued 43,085 new number plates to motorists in varying categories in Kaduna state, the Corps Marshall FRSC, Mr Osita Chidoka, has said.

Speaking in Kaduna ahead of the June 30 deadline for the renewal and replacement of the old number plates, the Corps Marshall, who is on sensitisation campaign to the state, reiterated the importance of ensuring the upload of database of vehicles plying the country’s roads for security and other statistic uses.

Chidoka, who spoke through Head of Section, National Vehicle Identification Scheme, Foumsuk Hyginus, said there were at least 24 approved registration units within the state, and urged intending applicants not to patronise touts for their own good.

He said: “We are advising that applicants should go and do the plating at designated FRSC points or sms verify number plate (one word) to 33810 to ascertain authentication of number issued to them.”
Kaduna sector Commander, Olu Mike Olagunju, said the Command had between January and February apprehended and penalised no fewer than 450 motorists for operating invalid number plates within Kaduna metropolis.

“Those who were apprehended paid traffic fine, did proper registration and were educated on traffic before regaining their vehicles,” he said.
Blueprint gathered that the new number plate costs between N26, 000 and N30, 000, while the official cost of issuance of driver’s licence is said to cost N6, 350, but the price varies from state to state.
