Fire incident: Supreme Court speaks on ‘affected documents’

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has spoken on the fire incident that razed some part of it’s building on Monday.

The apex court Director of Press and Information, Akande Festus, disclosed that the fire incident was not related to the proceedings of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

He revealed that the one chamber of the Supreme Court which was affected by the fire was quenched quickly with fire extinguishers.

According to him, “What was destroyed in that chamber were books, stationery and other computer gadgets. The books are replaceable because we have an e-library.

“We have the soft copy of the books and also the hard copy which can be procured and supplied to the chamber. So it has nothing to do with the Presidential Election Petition, as people are saying outside.

“Such issues as presidential election matters are not discussed in the chamber, inside the court and the documents and whatever that has to do with it are not kept in the chambers.”
