Fire guts secondary school in Jigawa

Hostels at Government Girls Junior Secondary School (GGJSS), Guri, in Guri local government area of Jigawa state have been gutted by fire.

The inferno which was said to have begun around 1pm took operatives of the
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and officers of the other sister security agencies a long time to put out.
Confirming the incident to our correspondent on phone, the Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr. Muhammad Gidado, said the fire gutted Peace House of the school or almost two hours.
He said no life was lost even as at the time when the fire began, the students were in classes taking their lessons, but that the hostels with the property of the students were literally burnt to ashes.
Gidado added that as at the time when the inferno was finally put out, its cause was yet not ascertained.
The commandant stated that the fire was, however, controlled at around 5pm, adding that investigation to identify the remote and immediate cause of the fire had begun.
