FG solicits devt partners’ support in education

The federal government has sought the support of development partners and the private sector in improving the nation’s educational sector.
The Minister of  Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu made the plea on Wednesday at a ministerial press briefing to herald this year’s World Teachers’ Day celebration in Abuja.

Adamu noted that the policy direction of President Muhammadu Buhari-led government concerning education “is to bequeath a legacy of a functional education system that focuses on self-reliance.

“In this regard, every effort is being made to promote entrepreneurship education, inclusive education and link SMEs, private sector and industries with institutions thereby producing effective human resource with appropriate skills and competencies.”
Represented by the Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Adamu said in order for Nigeria to survive and remain globally competitive, education would continue to be elevated as the country’s main tool for peace and entrepreneurship.

Earlier, Dr. Muhammed Idris, National President, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), urged his colleagues and other stakeholders not to relent until President Buhari assents to the bill for review of the retirement age of teachers from 60 to 65 years.
