FG lays foundation for MVA 123/33 KV substation in Akwa Ibom

The federal government said it has laid the foundation for the construction of 2 x 30/40 Mega Volt Ampree (MVA)123/33 Kilo Volt (KV) Substation at Ididep, Ibiono Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom.

The Principal Information Officer, Ministry of Power, Mrs. Margaret Oyinboade, who made this known in a statement in Abuja recently, said the Minister of State for Power, Mr. Goddy Jedy-Agba laid the foundation on behalf of the Federal Government for the improvement of electricity supply in Akwa Ibom.

According to her, the project has six feeders and is projected to be completed in 18 months, starting from the date it was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Jeddy-Agba said the Ministry of Power and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had to embark on the construction of the substation to strengthen the national grid.

He said the project was also embarked upon to improve service delivery and increase the capacity of power supply to the people of Akwa Ibom,

“ Upon project completion, it will strengthen the national grid by increasing its wheeling capacity to 25,000 Megawatts (MW) by 2025. The project was a campaign promise fulfilled by President Muhammadu Buhari to the people of Akwa Ibom State,’’ he said.

On his part, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa-Ibom, represented by the state Commissioner of Power and Petroleum, Dr. James Etim, thanked the Federal Government for bringing the project to them and promised to support the project.

Earlier, Senator Ita Enang, and the paramount ruler of Ididep Ibiono, His Royal Highness. Okuku Ime Usoro appreciated the president, ministers, the ministry of power, the community heads, and the people of Akwa Ibom for their cooperation.

Enang said he was interested in the project so that it could impact the lives of people and promised to work with the state government to ensure its successful completion.

The Director, Transmission, Ministry of Power, Mr. Nosike Emmanuel, appreciated the people for their cooperation and urged the government and people of Akwa Ibom to provide all necessary support and assistance to make the project a reality.
