FG hails NSCDC boss over staff welfare, tasks Corps on safety

The federal government has commended the Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for his exemplary leadership and commitment towards staff welfare.

Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, said this Tuesday, at the commissioning of the NSCDC parade ground, a two-unit bedroom edifice at the NSCDC headquarters in Abuja.

Aregbesola who was represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Shaibu Belgore, enjoined the NSCDC corps to be steadfast in the discharge of their service to society.

He said: “Yesterday, May 22, 2023, I had the pleasure of being taken to Kebbi and Sokoto to commission, the state headquarters offices of the Nigeria Security and Defense Corps in these two states.

“Those buildings were magnificent. The ceremonies were beautiful. The receptions we received were excellent. And the welcome we got was beyond compare.

“I want to thank the commander in general for his hospitality and courtesy for that trip. And here we are, again, another project.

“So this is a commander in general that is rolling projects over projects. We are happy to be here for the commissioning of these projects.

“And I am particularly delighted to be associated with these developments in the Corps. And I’m also impressed with the level of commitment and dedication to achievements within the short time that the CG has been in office.

“We usually applaud the efforts to transform the corps. And to note that remodeling the playground will further boost the training and manpower development needs.

“Taking into consideration the need to effectively tackle the complexities, sophistication, and mention of emerging security threats in the country for a safe and secure Nigeria will also enjoy you make these facilities available for the training needs of sister agencies and other security agencies that may require.

“Let me also urge you to ensure effective and judicious use of the facility to serve the purpose for which it is intended. In this regard, as regulators of private companies, it will be beneficial to use these facilities for part of the training of those officers of the private guard companies in the training as part of the training regime you have for them.

“It is also worth noting that welfare packages are another incentives that have a way of impacting positively on the performance of staff. I will therefore no doubt in my mind that the newly constructed staff quarters will go a long way towards addressing the staff housing needs and further motivate them for better performance.

“It is not new to say that investment and staff welfare is an added impetus and stimulants for improved performance. Therefore, once again want to commend Dr. Ahmed Audi for his exemplary leadership and commitment towards motivating staff for operational efficiency and better performance.

“These novel projects demonstrate the government’s commitment and the government’s promise to continue to encourage the core with logistics and material support to attain the enviable standard in the country’s security architecture.

“I, therefore appeal to all staff of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps to continue to build a profile of the Corps and to continue to work towards safeguarding all Nigerian citizens and making this country a continuously better place to live. Thank you very much for your attention.”

Speaking also, the NSCDC boss said part of his vision for the Corps is not only to improve existing facilities but you better develop new ones.

He also noted that the staff welfare program is part of ensuring the provision of shelter towards enriching the housing needs of the Corps to further boost the morale of personnel.

Speaking at the commissioning of the office complex of the Nigerian Association of Retired Civil Defence Officers (NARCDO), in Mabuchi Abuja, the president of the association, Ewurum Evans Chidi called on the Minister to address prompt payment of gratuity, pension and, other statutory allowances due to them.
