The federal government has reaffirmed its determination on the attraction of global attention to Nigerian-made gold.
The permanent secretary federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Olunwatoyin Akinlade stated this during a one-day stakeholders’ engagement workshop on the establishment of a downstream international Gold Souk in Kano.
She said the objective of the stakeholders’ meeting was to seek the collaboration of all stakeholders involved in the entire gold value chain, which includes miners, processors, refiners, jewel makers, marketers, and security services among others.
The permanent secretary noted that the Gold Souk established in Kano will serve as a platform for showcasing Nigerian crafts in jewelry making.
Dr. Akinlade added that Kano being a commercial hub would serve as one of the best gold market centers in the country.
In his remark, the chairman of the Miners Association of Nigeria Kano chapter, Malam Yahaya Kulu said the gesture was timely.
He maintained that establishing the Gold Souk in Kano would play a vital role in boosting the morale of indigenous miners to operate legally.
