Female student with gun, 12 others paraded in Cross River

The Commissioner of Police, Cross River state Command, Sikiru Akande, has paraded a secondary school girl who allegedly went to her school to kill her teacher for reprimanding her.

Also, paraded alongside her were 12 suspected kidnappers, cultists, armed robbers and others who CP Akande said were arrested from different parts of the state.

The commissioner, who gave the student’s name as Promise Idorenyin, said the gun was given to her by her 38-year-old boyfriend, Okon Effiom Edet, and that the female suspect did not target her teacher as initially reported since the double- barrel piston found in her bag had no ammunition.

“The 17-year-old girl, an SS II student of Community Secondary School, Ikot Ewa, Akpabuyo, had in her school bag a locally made double-barrel pistol, which was discovered by the principal of the school.

“The suspect admitted that the said firearm was given to her by her boyfriend, Okon Effiom of Abasi Effiom village in Akpabuyo LGA. Discreet investigation is on-going; the suspects will soon be handed over to the appropriate authority for prosecution,” he said.

According to him, the police recovered 57 rounds of 7.6mm live ammunition, 25 feet armoured cables, eight parcels of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, one locally made double barrel pistol, three locally made pistols with three live cartridges, charms, amulets, amongst many other items.

In an interview, the girl said the gun belonged to her boyfriend and that her parents were aware of her relationship with the man and had given their support, but denied planning to shoot her teacher.

“My parents are aware of my relationship. At times, he sleeps in our house. He helps me in my school matters. He told me to take the gun to the blacksmith to fix it,” she said.

She said further that she belonged to a female cult group called Skyqueens, but was not given any position of responsibility.
