FCTA to prosecute religious bodies, others over illegal billboards

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has said that all plans have been concluded to prosecute faith based bodies and other organisations in the court of law for allegedly mounting unapproved billboards and other outdoor advertisements in Abuja.

The Director FCT Department of Outdoor Advertisement and Signage (DOAS), Babagana Adamu disclosed that over one thousand four hundred illegal billboards were impounded in FCT, between May 24 till date.

Adamu said this during a recent interview with some newsmen in the nation’s capital city.

 The Director DOAS noted that religious and marketing organizations were the highest culprits among all the organisations behind the proliferation of the illegal signages in FCT.

He said the removal commenced since May noting that the Department will prosecute all the offenders.

According to him, the Department will synergize with all the Area Council in FCT to ensure illegal pasting of poster and bill boards by some groups and organizations is been curtailed in FCT.

He however appealed to the religious organization and other groups to desist from defacing the city with illegal billboards and signages.

The DOAS boss reiterated that indiscriminate pasting of posters remains illegal, and the government will continue to penalize offenders.
