FCT Police nab car snatchers, robbers, recover 9 cars, fake $300,000

Operatives of the FCT Police Command have arrested three suspect specialised in car snatching and robbery in the Abuja and its environs.

Commissioner of Police in Charge of the FCT, CP Ben Igweh, while parading the suspects said the operatives of the command acting on credible intelligence at about 3 pm on February 16, 2024 arrested three wanted car snatchers – David Junior Godwin of Port-Harcourt, Rivers state, gang leader; Paul Taju of Gwagwalada, Abuja; and Ali Shitu, of Port-Harcourt.

Accordimto Igweh, “The suspects are members of a four-man gang who specialises in inter-state car theft and snatching. They are responsible for series of car snatching and the disappearance of several hilux vehicles reportedly stolen in FCT and its environs.

“The suspects come into FCT, perpetrate their heinous acts and take the stolen vehicles to Port-Harcourt to sell.”

He disclosed that a master key and a total of nine vehicles were recovered from the gang including a red Toyota Rav 4 without Reg. No; a brown Toyota Corolla with Reg No. GWA 630 AG; a Toyota Camry with Reg No. ABJ 307 LK; a Lexus SUV with Reg No. KRD 949 FM; and five white hilux vehicles, all without Reg No.

CP further stated that the suspects confessed to the crime and were assisting the police to arrest other gang members at large.

In a related development, operatives attached to the command’s anti-fraud unit, acting on credible intelligence, arrested two suspects – Abdullahi Yahaya, 35, of Nasarawa state; and Gold Ebere, 53, of Jabi, Abuja, on February 23, 2024 at about 2:15pm at Tin Can Resort Garden in Jabi, Abuja.

The police boss said they suspects were in possession of 36 bundles of fake $100 notes, totalling $300,000 fake dollars.

Igweh said the suspects confessed to being members of an eight-man gang specialised in inter-state sale of fake dollar notes as well as that they had sold several of the fake notes to unsuspecting residents of FCT before they ran out of luck.

He said the suspects were assisting the police wirh its investigation, particularly to apprehend other gang members on the run.
