Fashola commissions 4 roads in BUK

Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Raji Fashola, Tuesday, commissioned four road projects at the Bayero University Kano, BUK.

While handing over the rehabilitated and reconstructed roads to the university authority, Fashola said 18 out of 43 road interventions have been completed in the Nigerian universities.

 The senior Information at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Mr Henry David in a statement sent to Blueprint, said the Fashola was represented at the event by the Federal Controller of Works Kano state, Engineer Idi Saje.

Fashola said: “The gap of our infrastructure needs is steadily being bridged by a gradual process of repairs, renewal and construction on major highways and it has reached the schools.

 “To date, 18 out of the 43 (road) interventions have been completed and today we hand over this one in Bayero University Kano, Kano state as a critical contribution to support education.”

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano (BUK), Kano state, Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello had given an award to the minister for the completion of the road projects and the subsequent handover.

The Vice Chancellor commended the federal government for the project, saying that the roads were properly constructed with drainages.

“It was an excellent job done by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing and I assure the Honourable Minister that the roads would be well used and maintained’’, he said.

The school’s Director of Physical Planning, Muhammad Gazzali, explained that the four roads were well supervised and would stand the test of time.

The representative of the contractors that handled the projects, Abideen Abdulazeez, thanked the minister for the adequate funding of the project.

A Professor of Pharmacy in the institution, Chedi Bashir said: “It is a welcome development that the roads are now motorable and it will enhance easy movement of both the staff and students.
