Exclusion: UPP Senatorial candidate, Inuwa, demands annulment of election in Plateau North

The Senatorial candidate of United Progressives Party (UPP) for Plateau North District, Sanusi Muhammad Inuwa, has demanded for the outright annulment of February 23rd, 2019  Senatorial District election in plateau state, on an account of exclusion of his party on the ballot paper.

He said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), erred by delisting his name and party logo during the National Assembly elections.

The UPP Candidate made this known to Blueprint in an interview, saying the exclusion of his party’s logo, contravene provision of the electoral Act, and therefore the umpire should annul the Senatorial election.

“In the first list released by INEC, my name reflected, but when I went to cast my vote, I couldn’t find the logo of our party,” he said.

He said from his investigation, his name appeared at the Southern Senatorial District of the State.

“I am calling on INEC, to consider listing me on the ballot paper, for the Plateau North Senatorial District, so that people can vote for me.

“In the circumstance where INEC, did not include me in the election, I will head to election tribunal and seek for the outright annulment of the election,” he warned.

Corroborating Inuwa’s stance, the UPP National Secretary, Alhaji Sadiq Masalla, in a press release said the umpire has meted injustice on them by not including their party in the election.

“That injustice became apparent when thousands of our supporters left their homes on February 23rd 2019 to exercise their franchise at the various polling units, but only to discover that our party logo was missing from the ballot paper for Plateau North Senatorial District.

“The omission of our party logo equally denied our candidate for the seat, Sanusi Mohammed Inuwa the opportunity to at least vote for himself despite the enormous financial resources he expended while campaigning for the seat.

“We want to call the attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to this injustice meted on our party and teaming supporters who were denied the opportunity to vote for our candidate,” he said.

The UPP scribe said they have written a petition to INEC in Plateau state and as, “we await their response, and we would like to call on all supporters of UPP to remain calm as we prepare to head to the tribunal to get redress.”
