Establish farm settlements for Igbo youth, OYC tells South-east govs

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) worldwide Tuesday called on the South-east governors to establish farm settlements to serve as Joint South East Youth empowerment programme across the five states of the zone to engage the unemployed youth.

The youth group which disclosed this to journalists in Abakaliki through their President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, applauded South-east governors on their stance on Ruga, saying it opened new opportunities for Igbo youth to prove their business ingenuity in animal husbandry.

While Isiguzoro applauded the governors for carefully managing the activities of herders in the zone, he urged Igbo stakeholders to comply to the demands of the governors and avoid ranchor among them.

He said: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council worldwide observed that the South east governors meeting excluded Igbo leaders and other stakeholders from their activities and deliberations, and we understood that this action is a disciplinary measure over unnecessary vituperations and careless outbursts without proper synergy and consultation with the South-east governors in the 2019 Presidential elections as reason for the recent exclusion of Igbo leadership in their meetings.

“Governors’ stance on Ruga has opened new opportunities for Igbo to prove their business ingenuity in cattle rearing, rice production, piggery, fishery, goat rearing and other farm produce.

“We urge the governors to immediately open up new farm settlements across the states to serve as Joint South East Youth empowerment programme for our unemployed youths.

“The South East Development Commission will accelerate the dividends of democracy in the South east and we insist that all the stakeholders in this project is adequately monitored to ensure it’s achieved soonest,” he said.
