Equity market closes northwards, gains N121bn

 

Trading activities at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday retained growth profile, gaining N121 billion.

Market capitalisation of listed equities increased by 1.08 per cent to N11.359 trillion from N11.238 trillion reported the previous day.

The NSE All Share Index also appreciated by 323.15 basis points to 30460.68 points from 30137.53 traded on Tuesday.

Investors during the day exchanged 305.808 million shares worth N2.102 billion in 3642 deals against 300.033 million shares valued at N3.247 billion in 3760 deals.

An analysis of the investment showed that Dangote Cement Industries led gainers table during the day, gaining N8.00 to close at N188.00, Guinness Nigeria Plc followed with a gain of N6.25 kobo to close at N71.00, Forte Oil gained N1.40 kobo to close at N29.40 kobo, Nascon added N0.60 kobo to close at N18.60 kobo while Custodian and Allied Insurance increased by N0.50 kobo to close at N5.80 kobo.

Betaglass Plc recorded the highest loss at the equity market, shedding N6.70 kobo to close at N60.30 kobo, PZ industries trailed with a loss of N1.00 to close at N12.00, Guaranty Trust Bank down by N0.90 kobo to close at N32.60 kobo, International Breweries dropped by N0.75 kobo to N30.25 kobo, Glaxosmith depreciated by N0.40 kobo to close at N11.80 kobo

Further analysis of the equities transacted on Wednesday showed that Diamond Bank was the most active stock during the day, trading 141.231 million shares valued at N296.575 million, Fidelity Bank Plc followed with account of 18.607 million shares valued at N38.216 million, Guaranty Trust Bank traded 17.442 million shares cost N577.749 million, Zenith International Bank sold 16.231 million shares valued at N357.108 million while Sterling Bank exchanged 15.969 million shares worth N31.542 million.
