Enyimba good for CAF Champions League glory

Enyimba striker Chimezie Amanfor has assured his side will not disappoint Nigerians in the lucrative Caf Champions League competition.
The Peoples Elephant finished as runners up in the 2013/14 Glo Premier League season behind champions Kano Pillars, which qualified both sides to represent the country in next year’s Africa’s elite clubs competition. And on Sunday in Lagos they successfully retained the Federation Cup title against Dolphins.
Amanfor said his side are determined to recreate the side’s finest moments that saw them win the Caf Champions League title back to back in 2003 and 2004.

“I want to promise the teeming supporters of Enyimba and Nigerians that we’re going to do well in the Caf Champions League.
“I’m particularly not happy that the Super Eagles didn’t qualify for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea but that could somehow help our league to start off earlier as we’re not going to feature in the championship.
“If we’re to start the league season on time it’ll help the continental teams to do well in the continent.
“I strongly believe we’ll do better than previously, perhaps go as far as recreate the glorious performances of 2003 and 2004,” said the former Akwa United hitman to supersport.com.

Amanfor said winning the Federation Cup trophy back to back with Enyimba is a memory that he will cherish for a long time to come.
“Winning the Federation Cup back to back with Enyimba has always been my dream and now we’ve achieved the feat its memory will remain ever fresh in me.
“Dolphins have not beaten us for the past three seasons. I’m quite happy we’re able to keep the tradition despite a stiff challenge from the Garden City side,” said Amanfor.
In addition to Enyimba and Pillars in the Caf Champions League showdown, Federation Cup runners up, Dolphins and Warri Wolves will compete in the Caf Confederation Cup competition.
