Elections: Vote according to your conscience, ex-LG chair tells FCT residents

The Mandate Secretary, Transportation Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and immediate past Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Candido, has advised FCT residents to vote candidates of their choice in the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking Thursday in Abuja, during a public lecture organised by the Candido Progressives Network for Tinubu/Shettima Abuja (CPNA), Candido, who is CPNA grand patron, said that the 2023 general elections will see to the election of capable candidates, hence the public lecture.

He said: “We have to support the party we believe in. We are lucky to have capable candidates in our great party, who are also on ground. You can see that our people are yearning for change. The only thing we can do is to encourage our people so that the change will come to pass.

“I always say that the challenge of FCT people is residual. It is domiciled at the National Assembly. At the National Assembly, we need people who have the reach, who have the capacity, wherewithal, diplomacy, lobbying power and everything needed to reach out to other Nigerians who don’t understand what we’re passing through.

“It is when they know what we are passing through that they can be of assistance. So, when we are sending people to the National Assembly, we should not look at tribe or religion. We should look at capacity, people who have the capacity to lobby other Nigerians and who understand the perspective of our situation.

“Year in, year out, we elect people and after four years, our issues are not resolved and we will elect other people to continue talking. This time around, I am standing on capacity. We should approach the elections with sense of reasoning. There shouldn’t be any reason for fighting.

“If you belong to APC, PDP, APGA or Labour, go and vote for your party and allow me to vote for my own. At the end of the day, God will crown the king and one person will win. I am a believer in this cause. If I cannot convince you to vote for my party and you won’t convince me to vote for your party, let’s vote for our different parties without fighting. God knows our challenge and He has found solution in the APC candidate, so we are good to go.”
