EFCC arraigns 13 suspected internet fraudsters in Osun

The operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Control (EFCC), Ibadan zonal office, on Tuesday, arraigned another four suspected internet fraudsters popularly called yahoo boys before a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun state capital.


The accused are: Tunde Bello, Solomon Matthew, Babalola Abiodun and Osanyintoba Temitope Dare.


The commission had on Monday arraigned nine for alleged fraud, impersonation, illegal possession of fake documents and obtaining money under false pretence. 


They are: Oluwafemi Samuel Emmanuel (18), Owopade Olanrewaju (27), Olatunbosun Kolawole, Ayoola Olalekan, Oyelude Opeyemi alias J. C. Grey, Azeez Rasaq Adewale, Ajao Ibrahim Ololade alias Rita Loris, Adesina Oluwaseun and Ibusiola Olalekan.


The EFCC prosecutor, Mr. Festus Ojo, told the court that he would oppose the bail application for the accused.
Justice Emmanuel Ayoola, thereby directed counsels to the accused to file formal application for their bail.


But when the case came up on Tuesday, another prosecutor from EFCC, Mr. AbduRasheed Sulaeman, advised the counsels to withdraw their bail application and address the court orally.


He said the practice of the commission does not permit him to make oral objection to the bail application and would need some times to react. He said he would not object to their bail if the court allow them to make it orally.


Counsels to the accused, Messrs Dapo Adekunle, T. O. Adigun, Saheed Oyebisi, Kayode Alabi, Akinlabi Akinfala, Dele Abass, Beauty Ekah, Opeyemi Adewale, Lukman Adeniji and J. P. Jonnes, urged the court to grant their clients bail in a liberal terms.


They premised their bail application on section 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015 and section 36(5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.


Justice Ayoola thereby granted the accused bail in the sum of N1million each with two sureties in like sum.


He said the sureties must be fathers and mothers of the accused while the accused must report to the registrar of the high court every month.


The case was adjourned to October 2nd, 2019 for trial.
