Edo teachers issue 21-day ultimatum over unpaid entitlements

Edo state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Wednesday issued a 21-day ultimatum to the state government over unpaid  entitlements and improved condition of services.

This was just as the teachers decried the “seeming non-challant attitude of Edo state government to genuinely address the union’s age long demands.”

In a 10-point communique issued at the end of its enlarged meeting in Benin City,  the union said the 21-day ultimatum takes effect from Tuesday December 8, 2020.

The communiqué was signed by the State NUT chairman, Pius Okhueliegbe, Moni Mike Itua, Secretary General and three others respectively.

While charging teachers in the state to remain calm, mobilize for an indefinite strike action, the communiqué urged them to wait for further directives at the expiration of the ultimatum.

The teachers listed some of their demands to include; the payment of 2013 to 2015 promotion arrears of teachers in Oredo, Orhionnwon and Uhunmwode local governments.

Others are: full  implementation of the 30 percent Special Allowance for teachers in schools for challenged children,  payment of all arrears and guaranteed  monthly salaries payment on or before the 27th day of every month.
