Edo: I am loyal, embattled deputy governor begs Obaseki at last

Less than 48 hours after he was locked out of the Government House in Benin City, the embattled deputy governor of Edo state, Philip Shuaibu, Thursday, bagged Governor Godwin Obaseki to forgive him.

Shaibu declared: “I am a loyal servant. I have resumed in my new office, though it is still under renovation.”

He tendered the apology while speaking with newsmen at his private residence in Benin City where he hosted a delegation of the Catholic Men Organization (CWO) Archdiocese of Benin.

He said: “I am sorry my Governor and we need to keep working together,” Shaibu added.

According to him, “I appeal to the Governor, if there is anything that I don’t know I have done wrong, please forgive me and let’s continue as we have always been the envy of many states.

“Like I have always told people, I am a loyal servant who will always support the Governor. It is a vow which nothing can change,” he stated.

Obaseki and his deputy have been locked in bitter political feud after Shaibu asked Abuja Federal High Court to stop the governor and the State Assembly from impeaching him.

The deputy governor has withdrawn the litigation, citing interventions from traditional rulers and religious leaders.

Governor Obaseki, who had denied the allegation have ever since avoided coming in close contact with his deputy both in public and private.

And to make matters worse for Shaibu, his office was relocated from Government House to a building located outside.

However, the deputy was reluctant to move to the new office, having been reportedly informed officially, a development that led to the sealing off of the old office complex.

The deputy governor who arrived at the old office building on Monday met the facility under locks.

Shaibu, who alighted from his SUV was  was seen making calls to a person believed to be the Government House Camp Commandant.

The deputy governor was heard responding saying on the telephone thus: “The governor said they should lock it (office) because they are using the office for something else?

“I was not moved to anywhere. Nobody has given me letter to move. The governor didn’t give me letter. How will I move out of my office?”
