Disquiet as PDP logo goes missing in Plateau North senatorial, reps rerun polls

It has been disquiet with the Plateau state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), over its missing logo, on the ballot papers, for the Saturday 3rd February, 2024, court-ordered rerun elections for Plateau North senatorial seat and that of Jos North/Bassa federal constituency.

Peaceful protest arose Thursday at the headquarters of the Jos Central Bank, during inspection of election materials when the ruling PDP officials discovered that the party’s logo was missing from the ballot papers provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the re-run elections.

The Court of Appeal had in its judgement on the 22 October, 2023 elections nullified the elections of former Senator Simon Mwatkwon, as well as former Reps Musa Agah, whereat it also disqualified the two PDP candidates and ordered for a rerun elections.

John Akans, the state publicity secretary of PDP, who was present at the inspection venue, disagreed with the development, stating that his party would not accept it.

“We have identified you the National commissioner of INEC.

“Let us see how you are going to conduct these elections. You have been our problem in Plateau.

“You either go back or do the right thing. Don’t take us for granted in this country. You are perpetrating illegalities.

“Is that what the constitution said? Let us see how you will do it. You will meet us in the field,” Akans referring to the INEC National Commissioner, Muhammed Kudu Haruna, at the CBN.

Responding to argument, Malam Haruna said the commission had held a stakeholders meeting with all political parties on the January 9, and were informed that the party would not participate in the elections, adding that the Appeal Court judgement had disqualified the PDP to participate in the elections.
